For film, series, advertising and digital media

Subsequent voice recordings for technically clean dialogs

Dubbing (ADR) is a subsequent voice recording that replaces faulty or unusable original sound. It is used in film, television, advertising and digital media to reproduce dialog in an understandable and technically clean manner.

Good dubbing is precisely oriented to the image and follows the timing, lip movement and mood of the scene. It creates a sound that blends seamlessly into the existing recording and makes the dialog clearly comprehensible.

OSLO STUDIOS produces ADR recordings with professional voice direction, precise framing and a structured process for recording, editing and mixing. Sound and editing are done in our own studio and are closely coordinated with post-production.

ADR productions usually include lip-sync recording, adaptation to the film signal, editing of the takes and the final mix for the intended playout.

    Ask us
    • What is synchronization (ADR)?

Dubbing (ADR) refers to the subsequent recording of dialogue to match existing film footage. It replaces faulty original sound, updates content or supplements sequences that were not recorded properly on set. The production includes directing, recording, editing and mixing. The aim is to achieve a natural sound that is lip-synchronized and atmospherically coherent with the scene.

    • How is a synchronization created in the studio?

The visual material serves as a reference. Dialogue is precisely dubbed and lip-synched. The mix combines voice and atmosphere to create a uniform soundtrack.

    • When is ADR necessary?

When original sound is unusable, languages are changed or emotion and emphasis need to be fine-tuned.

    • Why is ADR used even though the original sound was already recorded on set?

Dialogue material recorded on set often suffers from wind, background noise or unclear articulation. This reduces the intelligibility and perceived value of the production. ADR – Automated Dialogue Replacement – eliminates these weaknesses: In the studio, actors re-record their takes, precisely timed and with the best acoustics. In this way, authenticity is maintained and the result is broadcast-ready sound that meets international standards.

    • Can OSLO STUDIOS dub individual scenes or entire films?

Yes, from individual lines of dialog to complete productions.

    • Can foreign-language material be re-dubbed?

Yes, multilingual versions can be created from scratch.
